Welcome to the New Zealand Diversity web site.

Te Ngira: Tui, tui, tuia.  Binding us together.

Kotahi ano te kōhao ō te ngira e kuhu ai te miro mā, te miro mangu, me te miro whero (Pōtatau Te Wherowhero) - There is only one eye of the needle, through which the white thread, the black thread and the red thread must pass.

Nau mai. Piki Mai. Haere Mai.

On 10 August 2004, Parliament passed a unanimous resolution condemning all forms of racial and ethnic hatred, persecution and discrimination.

Following this, a Citizens Forum took place at Parliament on 23 August 2004 to discuss ways forward toward cultural harmony. This web site is a product of that forum, and the first step in the resulting New Zealand Diversity Action Programme, Ten Steps to Strengthen our Cultural Diversity.

The New Zealand Diversity Action Programme is a citizens' initiative facilitated by the Race Relations Commissioner and the Human Rights Commission.

The forum continues as on-line email discussion.

You can join the discussion by visiting the forum information page, or by sending an empty email to forum-request@nzdiversity.org.nz with the word "subscribe" in the subject line.

We recognise the Treaty of Waitangi as Aotearoa / New Zealand's founding document. As such, the Tangata Whenua and Te Reo Māori must be considered in any discussion concerning multiculturalism.

We plan to develop this site over time to include descriptions of New Zealand's cutural communities, a Diversity Strategy, resources, news and events, and more... so stay tuned to this site!
